THE COURSE
Application Details
Entry to NBS full-time courses is open to male and
female students, who can show suitable artistic and technical talent
or potential, as demonstrated at audition and interview, have the
necessary physical and mental aptitudes for a demanding course of
study and are over the UK statutory school leaving age. The number
of places on the courses is limited and they are offered strictly
on merit.
Duration of the Course
The length of the courses is dependent upon the standard
of the student at entry, the level of accredited prior learning
and progress subsequent to entry, but the normal duration of study
is three years. The school has a three term year of thirty-five
weeks in total, including a ‘reading week’ each mid-term
for academic study only.
Audition Dates
Auditions classes for normal September entry are held
at the school from the preceding October to June. Application should
be made by completing form NBS 1, available for download on this
site, or in the back of our prospectus. Return completed forms to
the school, together with the stipulated supporting documents, whereupon
an audition date will be offered by post. Individual auditions may
be held in exceptional circumstances. Dates of auditions to be held
at the Dancehouse are published in the dance journals, on this site
or can be obtained direct from the school by post, fax, phone or
e-mail. Additional copies of form NBS 1 can be obtained from the
Registrar.
Audition Dates are:
11th, 18th, 25th January 2010
1st, 8th, 22nd February 2010
1st, 8th, 15th March 2010
Classes are at 9:30am and 1:30pm unless stated otherwise.
Overseas Student Applications
Applicants from outside the UK, for whom attendance
for audition at the Dancehouse would be difficult, may make application
for entry by completion of form NBS 1 and submission of this and
the other material requested, together with a letter of support
from a qualified dance teacher, giving full details of dance training
and standard achieved to date. In such cases it is important that
the application is accompanied by photographs as requested on the
form or, preferably, by a SVHS, VHS or Mini DV, PAL system video
of the applicant in dance class. European Union states applicants,
who wish to be considered for a UK government funded tuition fee
scholarship, must attend an audition and interview at the school.
Enrolment and Induction Procedures
Successful applicants will receive an offer of a place
on the relevant course, together with form NBS 3. Enrolment of students
wishing to accept and reserve a place offered is accomplished by
the completion and return to the Registrar of form NBS 3, together
with any stipulated registration fee, or deposit where applicable.
Induction of new students takes place on the first day of the Autumn
term, when they are greeted by the Principal and introduced to school
routines, provided with their individual detailed course curriculum
and copies of the NBS student handbook and issued with standard
pre-ordered dancewear for classwork.
